Unofficial leaks point to a real leap for Samsung’s rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: a more acute 500 PPI display, a 5,000 mAh battery, and 45 W charging. S Pen support is expected too, though it’s reportedly locked to the pricier Ultra tier, just as Apple’s foldable iPhone closes in.
Rumored 500 PPI Display, 5,000mAh Battery and 45W Fast Charging Samsung
We covered the full rundown of the Fold 8 Ultra’s incoming upgrades earlier this week, and there’s a lot to like here, though it should be noted that Samsung hasn’t confirmed any of it yet.
Samsung is reportedly pushing the inner display to approximately 500 ppi, a big jump from the noticeably softer panel on last year’s model.
That resolution bump would finally put the Fold 8 Ultra in line with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which already sits at roughly 500 ppi. It’s the kind of parity Fold buyers have wanted for a couple of generations now, assuming this leak holds up.
Battery capacity is also rumored to climb to 5,000 mAh from 4,400 mAh, with wired charging said to nearly double to 45 W from 25 W.
The Fold 7 stuck with the same cell as the Fold 6, so this would be the fix a lot of Fold owners have been waiting on.
How the Samsung Fold 8 Ultra Could Reach Galaxy S26 Ultra-Level Sharpness
The body is also expected to get thinner, reportedly 4.1 mm unfolded versus 4.2 mm before, while holding the same 215 g weight.
S Pen support is rumored to make a comeback too, after skipping the Fold 7 entirely, and the inner crease is said to be noticeably shallower.
We’re likely coming up on another Samsung Unpacked event, but the brand has dropped some teasers about what we’ll be seeing when the next showcase does happen.
A series of new videos shared to social media point to a different ratio in the works for Samsung’s next foldable.
We had already heard rumors that Samsung was looking to experiment with a wider foldable for its next product, and this all but confirms that the change is coming.
Teasers Suggest the Next Generation of Foldable Devices Is Near Samsung
While there aren’t any images of the phone itself yet, the videos all draw attention to objects (a broken chocolate bar, a lightly decapitated puzzle, etc.) that deviate from standard smartphone dimensions.
The new proportions appear to be shorter and stockier than most comparable devices on the market, which are trying to mimic the rough size of a typical smartphone when they’re closed, just with reduced thickness.
It’s tough to gauge whether this new approach marks a permanent shift or whether it’ll be a limited run, like its intriguing but short-lived Galaxy Z TriFold. We’ll likely learn more about the Samsung’s intentions when Unpacked does roll around.
Slimmer Design Expected While Keeping the Same 215g Build.
As we inch closer to the launch of Samsung’s new foldable prices, the final pieces of information are being presented.
Today, we get a look at German pricing for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8, almost all of which have increases over prior models.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which is the familiar Fold shape and design you already know, will now start at €2199 in Germany.
This is a €100 increase over the Galaxy Z Fold 7. If you want more storage, like 512GB or 1TB, prices increase by €180 and €280, respectively.
Before we get into that, vote in our poll to tell me which upgrade you most want to see in the Z Fold 8 when it’s finally affirmed.
The Z Fold 7 has been my go-to every day since I first received it, but for the past six months I’ve also consistently carried a second phone in my pocket — becoming the kind of tech journo.
I hoped I never would, one obsessed with tech perfection no matter how inefficient and niche my collection of gadgets is (just you wait, I’ll be wearing two smartwatches next).
The reason I mention this is that the second phone is the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, and its primary purpose is as a camera, because it frankly puts my Z Fold 7’s shots to shame.
Earlier this year, Samsung Display showcased a new foldable OLED panel featuring its Advanced Crease-Less technology.
It was widely expected that this panel would be used in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Now, a reliable leakster claims that the ruffle on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series will be among the least visible in the industry.
Ice Universe says Samsung is using a significantly redesigned hinge in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. According to the leak, the new hinge has a more decisive opening and closing step.
which means the phone may not stay open at certain intermediate angles, a capability found in previous Galaxy Z series phones. Instead, it tends to snap fully open or shut, similar to foldable phones from some competing brands.
I’m coming from the Oppo Find N6 and Honor Magic V6, and I noticed several meaningful quality-of-life features that I wish Samsung would add to its upcoming device.
I enjoyed using a less reflective inner mesh with a minimal crease and didn’t miss out on a good zoom camera.
